Event Details

  • Join Friends of the Pawnee National Grassland for a morning of early spring birding among the "Big 4" lakes in northern Weld--Windsor Reservoir, Windsor Lake, Woods Lake and Frederick Recreation Area. By this date, the waters are thawing and rising and these sites play host to thousands of diverse waterfowl species as they stage before heading to the prairie potholes and far Canadian arctic for the breeding season. Participants can anticipate seeing expected goose and many duck species. Rarities do occur in these waters. Bald Eagle are routinely watching the waterfowl, and gulls are also present at all.

The field trip will meet at the Frederick Recreation Area (follow entry road south to lake berm for parking) and then travel north to Windsor Lake, Windsor Reservoir and Woods Lake.

RSVP at http://www.friendsofthepawneegrassland.org/ if you have previously joined the group or email Gary, aka the "Nunn Guy", at coloradobirder@yahoo.com.
